A little update on the SMU Arts N Culture Festival 2006

Well, the organizers are definitely planning for something exciting and happening during this season of opportunities. With the IMF and Bianale (the big stage thing on campus green, supposedly a famous arts event thingie) coming up, this makes a very good publicity stunt for SMU, not to mention us also.

On top of visitors to the above 2 events, the organizers also plan on going for a 1-hour Power98 interview and using the newspaper to promote this event. Imagine if our name even gets mentioned once, it will do wonders to our publicity also.

Anyway, how we will be involved....

There will be basically 3 things we will be involved in
  1. Fringing/Busking (Thursday, 12-1pm, 14th September)
  2. Rhythm Creation (30min Stomp-style collaboration with Gourmet Club, 11th September)
  3. The Fourth World (1-hour, Fusion Music thingie 15th September)
The second and third events are part of the main shows that will happen during the stated days of the Arts Fest. Main shows occur at 7pm everyday from 11th-15th September.

Fringing/Busking -
  • can do anything big or small.
  • simple is good
  • good opportunity for publicity
  • might not even need to be what we usually do
Rhythm Creation
  • 10 players needed (anyone up for this?)
  • supposedly inspired by some Korean Variety show machiam like STOMP and also a cooking show. o_O
  • our collaboration will be making music with knives and rubbish bins to prepare food
  • Gourmet Club will cook the food and even serve them to the audience. O_o
  • will be working with Phillip. O__O
  • not much details yet
The Fourth World
  • 5 players: Yanni, WK, Joy, JK and Z.
  • Instruments: Dhol, Chinese Drum, Taiko Drum, Conga, Agogo
  • collaborating with a few other clubs to create a fusion of music with different traditional instruments
  • will be working with Sharan, Amit, Wan, Budi and Zul
  • flexible practice schedules due to different instruments required for the different songs (which means might not even need to come for practice if your part is not rehearsed for that day, or can even leave early when your part is done for the day)

Yup. I'll post the handout they've given me if I could get a softcopy of it. If not I try to scan what I have.
