New Mascot Suggestions

After the booth was completed, Yanni, Elle, Jerry, Ujin, Yuchang, and I went back to the instrument room for a little R&R....


....but Jerry got a bit hungry...

















So after we smacked him in the head and thereby saving the samba logo, we tried to attach the gigantic triangle onto Elle, our residential mascot.... with disasterous results.

The logo was flimsy and it sandwiched Elle so tightly, she could barely stick her nose out for a breather, worst of all, it fell off when she tried to walk with it!

That was when Jerry realized how "naked" Elle looked behind the triangle while she was holding it...



(oops)







Then we all realized that, why not allow the "mascot" to hold the sign instead, something like the race-queen look! You know big launch events usually hire babes to parade around promoting their stuff (think Singtel gig).

We got our fantastic four!

So, we hope that any of the fantastic four would be willing to come during Vivace and bring along

1. an orange halter/tube/spegs/toga (actually red will do fine also)
   
2. a pair of white hot pants/miniskirt
   
3. a pair white gloves (Siqing, we heard of your long leather white gloves, ok so with that you're henceforth inducted into the fantastic four...)
   
4. a pair of white heels or boots
   

and be our hot race-queens. We think it suits the glam theme quite nicely.

Yo.. after a discussion during the waiting time at Convo, with most members present. we have decided what to wear during Vivace performance.

For both boys and girls. we will wear..:

Top: Mix of black and white. FOr guys, it is mostly long sleeve shirt with foldup sleeves. Ladies, just wear anything that looks glam, shirt, tube, etc.

Botton: Black. But NO denim

This monday, aka, first day of school, i will be meeting yuchang to do up the free gifts and misc items. Whoever wants to help, just feel free to come along. But dont miss class, even though i know u LOVE Samba Masala.

Anyone Knows where we can borrow a cosy couch, bistro tables, bistro chairs for free?????

A Little Off Topic

Ok, I know this is a little off topic but just found some interesting stuff to share with you guys.

What if you're told that our generation has been involved in the greatest conspiracy of our time, something so big and evil, that it could be comparatively measured with Hitler?

With the 5th anniversary of September 11th coming up, lets think back about how you felt 5 years ago as you were glued to the TV watching 911 events unfold, and the events that followed, have you always felt that there is something wrong but you cant't put your finger to it?

You were probably too shocked to think straight back then, as with billions of people worldwide.

But now that the dust has settled, people are starting to see the odd loopholes on the surface of the stories that we have been fed with so far...

What if you are told that everything you've known so far from the media, is just one big fat lie, a lie that fuelled the American war machine, led by the war mongrel Bush, to obtain billions of dollars in money and oil, at the cost of lives, including those of his own Americans....

Well, don't take my word for it, the following video will be shocking but my advice is to watch it with an open mind and decide for yourself..

Meeting Timings for Rehearsals & Gigs Next Wk

Hi pple,

Because of orientation camp perfomance and convocation full-dress rehearsal, there will be no practice next week.

Here are the meeting times for 15 Aug, Tuesday:
Convocation Main Group (excluding Chi Drummers) - 4:30pm at ACC (Lion Dance might be joining us).
Orientation Performers - 5:30pm at ACC, Bus leaves at 6:30pm

Jia Hui: pls bring the Convocation CD along.
Zhiwei, Swee Hock: You guys can practice before us if there's a need to do so.

There's not much time left to prepare for convocation, we hope to see all who are involved there on Tuesday at 4:30pm sharp!

Here are the remaining convocation rehearsals:
17th August (Thursday) – Report at 525pm, Suntec Ballroom.
Dinner Provided
(Approximate ending time: 1030pm)

18th August (Friday) – Report at 11am, Suntec Ballroom.
FULL DRESS REHEARSAL! All to be in costumes. Lunch provided.

19th August (Saturday) – CONVOCATION 2006 – Report at 10am, Suntec Ballroom

Available Funding for Overseas Trip!

We will be receiving funding for an overseas trip for the club. However, a solid proposal with all the details to justify the trip has to be submitted some time in October if we want to go next summer, as Ching Shiong has to submit his budget in November. Symphonia would be going to Australia in Summer 07 as their conductor has contacts there. The proposal would have to include WHEN, WHERE and WHY, as well as all the details we can provide in terms of itinerary, costing, accomodation etc.

Right now, I would really need everyone to start researching on suitable places. We could go to a place that has some sort of a festival, or a university where there's similar Samba groups from whom we can learn from. These are a couple of examples of justified reasons - the school won't pay for us to go there just to busk. The places i have in mind are Australia, New Zealand, Korea (can get info from Budi). Keep your ideas flowing on this blog.

On top of that, I would need a responsible and committed group of pple to come together to work this proposal out as a committee. The individual roles will be sorted out once i have the committee. I'm hoping for at least 5 pple - the more the merrier, and the lesser work per person. So let's all make this trip happen together!

Bad News for Busking

Well fellas, bad news.

Went down to NAC to hand in our busking forms on Thursday, turns out the previous lady, Linda who made arrangements with Yuchang about our busking application, no longer works for NAC anymore.

The new lady who took over her, called Apryl, apparently did not know of whatever arrangements that was agreed between Linda and Yuchang. So she told me that only those who played for the Singapore Arts Fest will be endorsed to busk. Which means only those who played for the Tampines Swimming Pool and SGH gigs will not need to audition.

Unfortunately, the list does not include, Joy, Weikiat, Ujin, Swee Hock and Huiyin. I've tried explaining to Apryl that we practiced together for nearly a year already so our standards are more or less the same, just that we rotate our players but apparently that didn't work.

Well, so happens yesterday (Friday), is the first Friday of the month, which is the audition day for NAC but, yeah not everyone could make it. So the next one is in September.... unless you guys wanna arrange for that. We need support players too.

Anyway, Apryl says she needs an extra photo from everyone cuz she says each of us will get an endorsement letter with our photos. Well this was not how Linda arranged for us apparently. And we can't endorse some players now and add other players in later, we have to wait till the licence expires within the year and go for another audition again to endorse all the players again.

Yep, busking definitely turned its back on us...

Ok. I am STILL waiting for the personal profile.

I think you guys more or less know that the website is nearly completed. But some of you are still not submitting your personal profiles.

I'm just trying to do my job so please help me make my task easier. Writing a simple profile about yourself is definitely 300% easier than doing a website from scratch.

instrument stickers

hey guys,

after measuring the size of the surdos, caixas, and repeniques which i do not really have to measure cuz renee knows all the dimensions, we had an informal poll on the background colour of the stickers.

i came up with some pictures and see which works better for all of you guys, we have 2 options.
one: print with background so we will paste over the whole surdo.
two: just print the logo so the surdos and the instruments still retain its original background colour.

tell me which you guys prefer, but it still depends on the budget.

seems today like most ppl prefer the fully covered sticker and in black. but maybe the visuals will work better here:
